Production Management Internship Job Description

Intern Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills he or she may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest and apply them in a professional setting. 

Some common duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Understands the overall concept of the company, including the brand, customer, product goals, and all other aspects of service.
  • Event Planning: Help coordinate with the SMP team, musicians, client, and other vendors to ensure smooth communication. This includes ensuring schedule, load in directions, stage plot, layout, song selections, and band availability are confirmed.
  • Event Promotion: Update and manage the ticket system. Create and update events on Facebook. There may be some light graphic design, ad design, and other content creation for social media to promote the event.
  • Show Production: Assist as a stagehand and sound technician during a variety of events which may include corporate events, public (free or ticketed) events, weddings, or other private events. Coordinate any last minute details and navigate challenges as they arise.
  • Provides suggestions to management for improving internal processes, creative endeavors, and growing the business.
  • Learns and becomes proficient on internal software systems.
  • Fulfills tasks assigned by a supervisor including clerical duties and miscellaneous projects.
  • Job shadowing and collaborating with the team as needed.

REGARDING AI:

  • SMP is always open to new ideas and improving processes. Using AI programs such as ChatGPT can be an effective tool with administrative tasks, brainstorming, and other duties. However, we do not support creative content generated by these programs (pictures, videos, copy) being posted on our platforms.

Work Hours & Benefits 

  • $13-15/hour

●  10-15 hours per week including weekends

  • Checks are bi-weekly

●  Work hours will be sent out bi-weekly to the staff 

●  Office and remote event hour

Intern Qualifications / Skills:

  • Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in marketing, event planning, hospitality, music production, or other related fields.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, calls with vendors, clients, etc
  • Organization and Administration Skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously
  • Proficient in Google Suites and internet applications
  • Working knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, YouTube
  • Thrives in Fast Paced Environments
  • Self-Motivated

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • In 3rd or 4th year of college graduate program
  • Prior industry experience is preferred
  • DEI Training is preferred

Program Schedule:

Smoothman Music Production runs a year-round internship program. If you are unable to join us for the sessions below, we welcome you proposing another period: 

• Spring internship will run from January to March. 

• Summer internship will run from April to June. 

• Fall internship will run from September to November.
